The employees of Reimer Express Lines know something. They see international news stories of the devastating floods caused by Cyclone Eline, that crashed through Mozambique after two weeks of torrential rain had already flooded the country. They recount stories of Hurricane Mitch as it slashed a path of destruction through Central America. They pain over the horrors of civil war and unrest in Kosovo and East Timor. Not pleasant stuff, but the harsh realities of the world outside of their own lives is a reality that many of the employees of Reimer Express Lines Ltd choose to face each day with their commitment to World Vision. In 1998 Allan N. Robison, President and CEO of Reimer Express Lines Ltd was anxious to continue Reimer's proud heritage of supporting worthwhile charitable organizations. The goal was to focus on a major organization that was involved with worthwhile causes around the world World Vision met that goal. "During our meetings, over the last several months at the various Reimer Express locations, I had the opportunity to discuss with you our continued commitment to partnering with World Vision to help care for some of the world's poorest children", Mr. Robison recently noted in a memorandum to all employees. He went on to say, "We want to challenge you to give at least one dollar per pay cheque to support World Vision's efforts. Whatever you donate, Reimer Express will match." Such a small amount for such a worthwhile cause, but by rising to this challenge Reimer's goal is to sponsor 200 of the world's poorest children. Currently 70 children have been sponsored and the number continues to rise. In addition, many employees choose to sponsor children independently and the company continues to match this commitment. |
Recently,
World Vision recognized the employees of Reimer Express for their outstanding
efforts in raising funds to sponsor needy children. Employees were presented
with a large plaque containing the faces of the children that have been so proudly
sponsored. Seeing the beaming faces of children so devastated by natural and
man-made disasters, reassures everyone that these efforts do make a difference.
To further enhance its commitment to World Vision, Reimer has now chosen to put a portion of the funds being matched by the company into drilling much needed water wells for the villages. Clean water, taken for granted in developed countries, is often a luxury as much as a necessity for the sponsored children .
Many of these children suffer in ways beyond our understanding, yet find great pleasure in sending their letters, cards and photographs. Our employees take equal pleasure in receiving these expressions of love.
Reimer Express Lines Ltd and the employees of Reimer Express ask that you consider sponsoring a child. Visit the World Vision Web Site to gain an understanding of the need that exists around the world. Your contribution can make a difference. The employees of Reimer Express Lines Ltd know that.
