Winnipeg, MB — Reimer Express Lines Ltd. celebrates their 50th Anniversary this year. In celebration of this great event, a luncheon was held for customers and employees in Winnipeg.
"We've spent a lifetime waiting for this day and I'm very proud to be part of this occasion ", said Clayton Gording, Vice President of Operations for Reimer Express Lines Ltd., as he welcomed everyone to the luncheon.
Founder and Chairman of Reimer Express Lines Ltd, Dr. D.S. Reimer, spoke enthusiastically about the humble beginnings of the company, as well as the future prospects for the company. According to Dr. Reimer, when the company began "It was not a detailed plan". He simply had a vision, and the vision had to be modified as the company grew and expanded its scope of operations. "Fifty years ago, I couldn't have imagined where the company would be today." Reimer Express Lines is now one of the leading transporters of freight throughout North America, surviving in an environment, where many other companies have not.
Allan N. Robison, President and CEO of Reimer Express Lines Ltd. also shared his thoughts about how the company has stood the test of time. "It's certainly a milestone, turning 50 years of age in this day, when competition is the way it is." In talking about the success that the company has enjoyed over the years, Robison stated that, "If you get it started in the right direction and you start it properly, with the right thoughts in mind and the right qualities, it can stay that way as long as everyone stays with the program and buys into the vision". To further the success of the company going forward, Robison added, "We will continue to keep that vision alive".
Customers and employees enjoyed a wonderful luncheon, which was also attended by the Minister of Highway and Transportation of Manitoba, Mr. Steve Ashton. During his speech, Mr. Ashton stressed that, "Trucking is critical for our current economic circumstances and it's critical for our future. " He went on to commend Reimer Express Lines for being a survivor, and stressed the importance of Reimer Express Lines being an integral part of the trucking industry within Canada. "Look at much of rural and northern Manitoba. It really wouldn't exist today in the form it is, without trucking."
Also attending the luncheon was the acting Deputy Mayor from the city of Winnipeg, Mr. Gord Steves. He also stressed the importance of companies, such as Reimer Express Lines, to cities like Winnipeg. "When we're trying to attract new business to the city, when we're trying to expand our city, and when we're trying to highlight our labour force to companies that might be thinking about coming here, the first question they ask, invariably, is who is here already and how are they doing. This company is always mentioned it is always mentioned. "He went on to extend his heartfelt congratulations and best wishes for the future of everyone who helped to make Reimer Express Lines "such a great, great jewel in the corporate structure of Winnipeg".
To mark their 50th Anniversary this year, Reimer Express Lines unveiled an antique replica of the truck and trailer from 1952. The tractor is a completely restored 1952 International L185 and the trailer is a 1952 Trailmobile, single axle configuration. Both units are fully operational and will be used in various functions throughout the year. The antique truck is quite remarkably displayed in a building that was constructed to house the replica on Reimer's property in Winnipeg. The building has windows along the front and the unit is showcased under lights. This new home for the antique anniversary truck and trailer, proudly and properly displays it as a great token of the occasion.
