Frequently Asked Questions

If it's quick answers you want, we've got them. We've put together this list of shipping questions we are asked most often. Remember, too, that an excellent source of information is always the Reimer facility nearest you. Our field experts are happy to help you with any questions.

The following is a list of the most common questions we hear from customers...

1. How do I determine if a destination point is served direct?

Our Online Routing application indicates direct and non-direct points. Otherwise, your local facility can help. Reimer also publishes an annual Service Guide that lists all our direct and non-direct service points.

2. How do I obtain a proof of delivery or delivery receipt?

If the shipment in question was fairly recent, the fastest way to get a proof of delivery is by using POD Online. You may also request that delivery receipts be faxed to you by calling our Voice Response System at 1-888-4REIMER or 1-888-473-4637.

3. Does Reimer offer transport beyond Canada?

We provide seamless service throughout the entire North American trading market, including the United States, Mexico, Alaska, Hawaii, Puerto Rico and Guam, plus export services to many destinations throughout the globe.

4. Does Reimer transport dangerous goods?

Reimer Express is a partner with a major chemical producers association within Canada and their Responsible Care Program since its inception. Our field employees are also knowledgeable on procedures for transporting dangerous goods through continuous training and compliance programs.

5. What types of freight are NOT acceptable for transporting by Reimer?

We transport a wide variety of freight, but there are certain prohibited or restricted articles which Reimer cannot accept for shipping, including (but not limited to) antiques, works of art, precious stones, jewelry, currency and hazardous waste.

6. What are freight classes?

Different types of products -- from chemicals to machine parts to toaster ovens -- are defined according to their makeup. Each product definition is called a classification. Classes of freight are catalogued in the National Motor Freight Classification (NMFC) tariff. The NMFC tariff is a publication for motor carriers containing classes, rules, item descriptions and ratings of all commodities moving in commerce. There are 18 possible classes, ranging from 50 to 500. Typically, the higher the class, the higher the rate for every hundred pounds you ship.

7. How do I calculate my shipment's density?

Click here to learn how to calculate a shipment's density. We'll take you through it online--step by step. This may be useful because a shipment's density helps determine the freight rate.

8. How do I know what class of freight I am shipping?

Most manufacturers and professional transportation managers are participating members of the NMFC or are familiar with their products' classifications. If you're not sure of the proper classification for your freight, contact a Reimer representative or telephone the National Motor Freight Traffic Association at (703) 838-1810.

9. Who do I call for more information about a specific service or product?

Reimer sales representatives are well-informed about the wide array of products and services we offer and are happy to help determine how we can best serve you. See our Products & Services section for more information about our shipping solutions.

10. How do I get information about my shipments?

You can always call your local Reimer facility for information about a particular shipment, including its current delivery status and location.

Besides our online Customer Tools, we also offer a wide variety of automated options:

11. How much will it cost to move my freight?

Should you have a question regarding the cost of moving your freight between two locations in Canada, contact your local representative.

If your freight is moving to/from a point outside of Canada, E•Z RATE Online allows you to receive rate quotes based on origin and destination zip/postal codes. It is also available as E•Z Rate Plus, a standalone PC Program. Along with a rate, it provides the phone number of the nearest Reimer service centre in both the origin and destination cities.

12. Can Reimer protect freight that is sensitive to cold?

Reimer operates a fleet of over 300 climate controlled trailers to move your shipments throughout Canada. Contact us at one of our Canadian Service Centres, for more information.

13. I need to file a claim -- where do I start?

Your local Reimer facility is capable of instructing you on the proper way to file claims or you can review the procedures on our Web site.

14. Who do I call if my shipment needs special handling?

Reimer facilities are capable of handling almost any size, shape or density of freight. If your freight requires special consideration, note your needs on your bill of lading and tell your contact at your local facility.

15. I have a question about my bill -- whom should I call?

For questions about your bill or to resolve billing errors, contact your local Reimer facility.
